Paragliding with Altitude Adventures

One of the great things to do in the Golden BC area is Paragliding. Altitude Adventures operates out of the Eco Ranch south of Golden where you can go Tandem Paragliding off Mount 7. Some of the top paraglider’s in the world are here and what a rush…jumping off the top of the mountain and then looking for the thermals and following the Eagle’s above the Columbia River. Talk about adventure!!

Kite Buggying and Paraglide Training at Garry Point Park

Garry Point Park was the scene today for some kite buggying and paraglide training. The park is a popular place in Steveston, BC for people of all ages to fly kites but it’s been a long time since I was last there and kite flying has taken on a whole new meaning! Kite buggies have been commercially available since the 1970s but became popular in the late 1990s – although not so much in my part of the world. A kite buggy is a single person vehicle powered by a power kite. Skilled kite buggiers can reach speeds of 110 km/hr (70 mph).

In the last week of August Pemberton had sunny, stable flying conditions. A kind local took me up into the hills and I continued on alone, pottering around the high country amongst the glaciers. Only short flights but a short flight up there is much more memorable than a sleddie from a normal paragliding takeoff!
