Kite Buggying and Paraglide Training at Garry Point Park

Garry Point Park was the scene today for some kite buggying and paraglide training. The park is a popular place in Steveston, BC for people of all ages to fly kites but it’s been a long time since I was last there and kite flying has taken on a whole new meaning! Kite buggies have been commercially available since the 1970s but became popular in the late 1990s – although not so much in my part of the world. A kite buggy is a single person vehicle powered by a power kite. Skilled kite buggiers can reach speeds of 110 km/hr (70 mph).

Virgin Paraglide Flight

Paragliding off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii between Kaupo Beach Park and Sea Life Park Hawaii. The two islands seen are Manana and Kaohikaipu, both State Seabird Sanctuaries. At one point there is a squall seen through a valley in the cliffs and the clear water of the Pacific with as many shades of blue and green that can be imagined. We glided mostly at 1500 feet, at one point reaching 1800 with fellow paragliders around, Renat and Gilli, and then a descending spin at the end and touchdown. Thank you to Jordan for arranging and for Scrapper for flying behind me in tandem keeping us aloft and safe.

Ground Handling Practice at Liberty State Park NJ

reverse inflation, reverse kiting, and deflation using the rear-risers. Wind speed was moderately strong about 8 to 9 mph. During reverse kiting, I got lifted for a couple of feet off the ground for a brief moment due to a sudden wind gust of maybe 11 to 12 mph so I used the rear-risers to collapse and deflate the wing. Conditions were getting too dangerous for my skill-level so I stopped and packed my stuff. Did practice building a wall using the front-risers and C-risers, but I didn’t …
